How to Make Sure You Have Eternal Life

Today is a good day to consider your soul. What will happen to you after you die? Doubtless, you hope that nothing bad will happen to you, and perhaps you are sure it will be so.

But have you believed in the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ with all your heart? Have you turned away from sin to obey him? Have you renounced all hope in your own righteousness and goodness? Have you forsaken other gods, idols, spirits and saint worship? If not, you are still on the wide, easy road that leads to destruction, upon which many people walk. Please keep reading.

You still need to find and enter the narrow gate that leads to life, which only a few people find. You must see that your rebellion or indifference toward God, which is your sin, will be judged. If you have disobeyed God, you will be cast forever into the outer darkness, into hell, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. This is the direction you are going.

You must give up all of your sin, or repent. Are you a thief? Stop stealing. Are you a liar? Tell the truth. Are you sleeping with someone outside of marriage? Abstain from it. Are you selfish or proud or cruel or hot-tempered? Learn to be a generous, kind, humble servant. Of course, you still will not reach perfection on your own.

There is only one way to escape the punishment for your sin: a substitute must die in your place. That indeed happened. The Son of God, Jesus Christ, suffered and died on a cross to pay the price for your sins. Afterward, he rose from the dead as the first person to have a resurrected, glorified body. God says that if you trust in His Son, you will be pardoned, forgiven, and saved. You will become an adopted member of His own family, with full rights. You will be washed clean of all that you have done. You will be given power to live righteously in accordance with His commandments. You will not have to go to hell. You will go to heaven after you die, and you will live in peace and joy forever. Even though your body dies, it will be raised again in glory when Jesus Christ returns.

God the Father, in His love toward you, has provided this unique and only way for your soul to escape punishment after death and for you to have eternal life. So, trust in His Son Jesus, and repent of (turn from) the ways of darkness. Jesus said, "I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." Trust Him -- He is no liar.
