The Inner Call from God

"No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day."
--Jesus Christ (John 6:44)

The Lord Jesus Christ here states that anyone who follows him or truly believes in him does not do it of his own ability. He shows the futility of self-righteousness and the power of God in the mind and heart of the genuine believer.

In chapter 6 of John, Jesus teaches he will resurrect his believers on the last day of this age and give them eternal life. Those who believe in him know him to be the Bread of Life and the answer to all of their needs. He himself is central to a true relationship with God. He is life itself. And, he has promised that none of his true followers will ever be lost.

Who may have this life? Only those who come to Jesus. Who may come to Jesus? Only those whom God the Father draws. There exists an internal call from God that only true believers sense or hear or know -- one that gives them understanding by the Scriptures that Jesus Christ is the Savior and Lord. This inner call is so compelling, so enlightening, that they come to realize their utter need to be saved from judgment and wrath, and that Jesus himself is the only solution. They see that he is the only begotten Son of God, who truly died for their sins and rose again. Upon this great realization, they confess, "My Lord and My God". The dawn breaks in on the darkness of their soul and they leap for joy and relief that the Savior came to pardon them. They are re-born with a spiritual birth. God is wonderful, that he works such a powerful influence on wretched sinners such as us so that we may come to Christ.

This call is initiated by God and performed by God. It is therefore impossible to perform this special calling on one's self or on others. One cannot drum up sincere repentance and faith on his own. We certainly do call every person to believe in Christ and repent of sin, but this is the external call. We preach the gospel and tell the story of Jesus. We scatter spiritual seed where we can. But only God makes it come to life in a person's heart. That life is God's call and God's drawing power, which always leads one to Jesus.

Jesus quotes the prophets to explain: "And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me." Therefore, Jesus is the final destination of the believer's call from God. The true believer will come to Jesus by faith. He will firmly cling to Jesus Christ, knowing implicitly that no other option exists. No other "Son of God" or Savior will ever appear. Jesus is the only hope, and the only door to God. He is the only Bread of Life. Whoever believes in God but does not come to Jesus Christ has not known the true God. That person is still in the darkness and under condemnation.

Also, we who believe in Christ have the secure hope of being physically resurrected from the dead at the end of the world. Jesus himself will personally raise up our bodies. We will enjoy perfection, glory and eternal life with him. Why should we be so blessed to freely receive such goodness? Only because of the love and mercy of our God. It is God's will that all those that he has chosen will be given to Jesus. And so we will be with him forever.

Believer, take heart! God the Father is for you. He has chosen you before the foundation of the world to belong to Jesus Christ. He drew you out of your life of sin and rebellion. He watches over you still. You are in Christ and shall never be lost. Jesus is for you and loves you. He will surely keep his word. Eat this Bread of Life everyday by believing the good promises of our God.

Unbeliever, if you have read this far, you are urged to turn from your sin and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. As stated above, you cannot do that on your own, but it is our prayer that the Father has been pleased to use this writing as part of his means of bringing you to Christ. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved!

A View of the Afterlife

A little story told by Jesus Christ

There was a rich man who wore expensive clothes. Every day was like a party to him. There was also a beggar named Lazarus who was regularly brought to the gate of the rich man's house. Lazarus would have eaten any scraps that fell from the rich man's table. Lazarus was covered with sores, and dogs would lick them.

One day the beggar died, and the angels carried him to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. He went to hell, where he was constantly tortured. As he looked up, in the distance he saw Abraham and Lazarus. He yelled, 'Father Abraham! Have mercy on me! Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water to cool off my tongue. I am suffering in this fire.'

Abraham replied, 'Remember, my child, that you had a life filled with good times, while Lazarus' life was filled with misery. Now he has peace here, while you suffer. Besides, a wide area separates us. People couldn't cross it in either direction even if they wanted to.'

The rich man responded, 'Then I ask you, Father, to send Lazarus back to my father's home. I have five brothers. He can warn them so that they won't end up in this place of torture.'

Abraham replied, 'They have Moses' Teachings and the Prophets. Your brothers should listen to them!'

The rich man replied, 'No, Father Abraham! If someone comes back to them from the dead, they will turn to God and change the way they think and act.'

Abraham answered him, 'If they won't listen to Moses' Teachings and the Prophets, they won't be persuaded even if someone comes back to life.'

What does this mean?
  • Jesus told this story to show us what to expect after we die.
  • Life continues after death. You can remember, feel, speak, etc.
  • Some people go to Paradise (with Abraham), and others go to hell.
  • You cannot change your situation after you die.
  • If you do not listen to the teachings in the Bible now, it will be too late then.

The story above is from the Bible (Luke chapter 16, God’s Word translation). The Bible tells that Jesus is the Son of God, who died on a cross to pay for our sins. He rose from the dead, and will return one day to judge every person. If you trust and obey Jesus Christ now, you will be forgiven and granted eternal life.

A Man Talks with Jesus One Night

Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Jewish council. He came to Jesus one night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that God has sent you as a teacher. No one can perform the miracles you perform unless God is with him."

Jesus replied to Nicodemus, "I can guarantee this truth: No one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above."

Nicodemus asked him, "How can anyone be born when he's an old man? He can't go back inside his mother a second time to be born, can he?"

Jesus answered Nicodemus, "I can guarantee this truth: No one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Flesh and blood give birth to flesh and blood, but the Spirit gives birth to things that are spiritual. Don't be surprised when I tell you that all of you must be born from above. The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you don't know where the wind comes from or where it's going. That's the way it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

Nicodemus replied, "How can that be?"

Jesus told Nicodemus, "You're a well-known teacher of Israel. Can't you understand this? I can guarantee this truth: We know what we're talking about, and we confirm what we've seen. Yet, you don't accept our message. If you don't believe me when I tell you about things on earth, how will you believe me when I tell you about things in heaven? No one has gone to heaven except the Son of Man, who came from heaven. As Moses lifted up the snake on a pole in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up. Then everyone who believes in him will have eternal life. God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but to save the world. Those who believe in him won't be condemned. But those who don't believe are already condemned because they don't believe in God's only Son. This is why people are condemned: The light came into the world. Yet, people loved the dark rather than the light because their actions were evil. People who do what is wrong hate the light and don't come to the light. They don't want their actions to be exposed. But people who do what is true come to the light so that the things they do for God may be clearly seen.

What does this mean?
  • Some spiritual truths are hard to understand.
  • You cannot see or enter heaven without being spiritually re-born first.
  • Jesus died on a cross to be our Savior. He rose from the dead.
  • If you trust in Jesus Christ you will have eternal life. Trust him!
  • Whoever does not trust in Jesus is already condemned because he or she loves darkness.

A Lark and Raven Verse

The Lark - he sings so bright and clean.
The Raven, he just croaks.
The Lark sings thanks to God the King.
And Raven's faith on heaven leans.

Gladly sing, O lark, your thanks to God above.
Trust Him, O men, as ravens do, to feed you by his love.

(just some poorly-written poetry)

The 5-a-Week Tract Challenge

Challenge yourself to give away, distribute or strategically place 5 gospel pamphlets per week.

This challenge goes out to all Christians who have a desire to see people saved by our Lord Jesus Christ according to the Great Commission.

Gospel pamphlets, or "tracts", are a simple, easy, and effective way to present the word of truth and grace to others. Many people who would not take the time to listen to you or go to church would read the gospel in a well-placed tract. These little mini-preachers can travel to places that you would never imagine.

Some suggestions:
  1. Leave them discretely in places where people go: markets, waiting rooms, libraries, gas stations, banks, etc.
  2. Distribute them to friends, neighbors or family, or even strangers.
  3. Put them inside envelopes, newsletters, cards, library books, etc.
  4. Put them on welcome mats, windshields, bathroom counters, etc.
  5. Try to find some in other languages that are spoken in your area.
  6. Pray that God will bless each one that you distribute for the salvation of souls.
  7. See World Christian Tract Ministry for more encouragement and tips.
Where can you get tracts?
  1. Moments with the Book (http://www.mwtb.org)
  2. Evangelical Tracts (http://www.tracts.ukgo.com)
  3. Or make your own. Make sure they include the true gospel of Jesus Christ, that he is the Son of God who died and rose again for our sins. Everyone who trusts in him has pardon and eternal life. For example, see Eternal Life or Save your Soul.
For Over-Achievers
If you find that 5 per week is too few, why not "level-up" and do 20, 50, 100 or 500? People around the world need to hear the live-saving good news of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Write to us if you have some stories to share about how you did it. You can do it!
